Getting the size and the cover right
A culvert only works if the pipe can pass the water that reaches it and the backfill over it can carry the load that rolls across it. Two numbers drive almost every order we quote: the diameter of the pipe and the depth of cover between the top of the pipe and the finished driving surface. Undersized pipe backs water up and washes out the shoulder; not enough cover lets truck traffic deflect the pipe until the seams start to work.
For residential driveways off a county road, the road authority usually sets a minimum diameter and length. On commercial sites, the civil drawings call the pipe out by size, gauge and material. Send us either one — the county spec or the site plan sheet — and we will pull the right pipe, cut it to the length you need and add the bands and end sections that go with it.

- What lengths can you cut?
- We cut pipe to the length your drive or crossing calls for and supply connecting bands where two pieces have to be joined in the ditch.
- Do I need end sections?
- Flared end sections protect the inlet and outlet from erosion, keep the ditch line clean and make mowing far easier. Many road authorities require them on new driveway entrances.
- Can culverts ship with my steel?
- Yes. Culverts ride on the same truck as your structural steel and rebar — one delivery, one invoice.
